But what about tasting it? How often do we think about thoroughly tasting the beer we make and drink? Maybe everyone of you reading this is way ahead of the game compared to me, but now, nearly 15 years since I brewed my first batch of beer, I’ve only just begun my tasting adventure.
I’ve always considered myself a beer snob, but that’s because I’ve got high standards for quality beer. But in all my years of beer snobbery, I’ve never once considered myself a connoisseur with a sophisticated palette. I’m a big-picture kinda guy, and I have spent all this time in the Overall area of a tasting, and never in the other four vastly important areas—appearance, aroma, mouth feel, flavour.
This segment of Aussie Brewer Blog is my journey to becoming more knowledgeable and appreciative of our craft by learning the art of tasting—and appreciating—the fine details in each particular style of beer. My goal is to taste one new bottle of beer every day for the indefinite future to learn how to properly taste and appreciate a finely made drop.
